How The Canteen Ledger reads and names its sources, handles corrections, and declares its generated images as plates.

Sources read and named
Every entry on the four counters rests on sources the ledger has read. Each entry names them at the foot of the page: archived pages of the canteen, dated menus, recipes, reviews and local press. Where a claim has no source, the entry says so.
The date an entry was checked
The record is read from pages that survive only in part. Each entry carries the date it was last checked. A date is not a promise of completeness. It is a record of when a person last sat with the material and confirmed it.
Corrections
Errors are corrected by email. Write to contact@canteenoncliftonstreet.com with the entry reference and the passage in question. The ledger reviews the source, amends the entry, and moves the checked date forward.
Generated images declared as plates
Photographs on this site are generated images made for each entry. They are captioned as plates and are never presented as documentary photographs of a particular room, dish or person.
Limits of the ledger
Nothing here takes a booking, publishes a price or speaks for the canteen. The site sells nothing and carries no commercial link. People, suppliers and the press named in an entry are described in the third person.
