One address

The ledger reads one mailbox: contact@canteenoncliftonstreet.com. There is no telephone line, no booking calendar and no contact form. Messages sent to another address are not part of the record.

What to write about

Three kinds of messages belong here.

A correction. If an entry states a fact that is wrong, name the entry by its reference and counter, quote the sentence, and give the source that shows the error.

A source. If you know a menu, a recipe, a review or a dated page that an entry should have read, send the citation. The ledger adds sources it can verify.

A question about an entry. Ask about a dish, a date, a place or a term. Requests for a booking, a price or a table are outside the work of this site and are not answered.

What happens next

Every message is read. A correction that holds is applied to the entry and the date it was last checked is changed. A source that checks out is added to the list. Requests to remove personal data are handled by the same address and are acted on.

The Canteen Ledger

The Canteen Ledger is an independent editorial record of the Canteen on Clifton Street, Cardiff, written from the archive, the local press and the recipes kept in print.

The Ledger does not take bookings, does not publish prices and does not speak for the canteen. People, suppliers and the press named in an entry are described in the third person; none of them publishes this site.
